January 2013

Wow, I can't believe it's already 2013!! It's crazy to think that my baby will be two this year, along with many other changes the year will bring, I'm sure.

Well, January was a rather crazy month for us.  Landon visited the doctor at least 7 times this month and he and/or I were sick pretty much the entire month.  However, we did have some great times too!

The first week was pretty low key for us.  We celebrated New Year's Eve and New Year's Day here in ABQ by ourselves.  It was nice and relaxing but we did miss our family too.  We also watched the Aggies in play in and win the Cotton Bowl...Whoop!  Then, on Saturday afternoon after Landon woke up from his 2nd nap he had this awful cough.  It literally came out of nowhere and sounded like a seal barking.  He just continued to get worse and then we took him in to an after hours pediatrics place around 8:00 p.m. Sure enough, he had Croup and got a steroid shot for it along with a few steroid pills to take for the next 3 days.  Doc said he should be fine within 48-56 hours and that he was no longer contagious.

The next day, my mom few in town to keep Landon for us for a couple of days so we could go to the National Championship game in Miami. That brings us to the start of the second week.  Lee and I flew out on a private jet to Miami to see the Irish play Alabama for the BCS football title game.  Such a fun experience but I wish the game had had a better outcome.  Here are a few pics from our short but fun trip to Miami.

We came back from that game on Tuesday morning and Lee went straight to work.  I headed home to find that Landon wasn't feeling better but his cough had changed quite a bit.  So, I took him back in to the doc's office and they did a mucus test and sure enough he had RSV.  The rest of the week was filled with another doc's appt for Landon, UNM basketball games, Lee's indoor soccer season starting, and a few rough nights of sleep for all of us.

The third week started off with a snowy day in ABQ, followed by a snow delay for Lee the following the day.  Landon hung out with his "Aunt" Debbie one day this week so Mommy could get a few things done.  He also got his first ear infection following his bout with Croup and RSV.  By the end of the week, he was better so we had a lunch date with Lee and a play date with some friends from Tucson that just moved to ABQ.  Landon also learned how to play hide-n-seek this week!  The weekend brought about another soccer game for Lee and a date night for Lee and me.  We had dinner out and then went to the movies to see Silver Linings Playbook.  It was definitely much needed alone time!

The following week was a busier week for us.  Lee was off of work on Monday and he and our handy man got some things done around the house, like hanging the living room curtains.  We also had the Pitlik's over for dinner on Monday night.  Landon also went to the GI doc on Monday for a follow up appt.  We learned that he has 'learned' not to eat and he suppresses his appetite because he associates pain and discomfort with eating due to his severe case of GERD (official name of acid reflux disease).  Basically of all of that along with his sensory issues makes eating a terrible, painful, and uncomfortable experience for him.  So we start occupational therapy for his sensory and eating issues on March 4th.  This week also brought on a double ear infection for Landon and me getting sick with whatever he had.  We also had the UNM basketball game, Landon's swallow test at the hospital, dinner with the McLean's, errand running day, and another soccer game for Lee.

The month finally ended with Landon going back to the doctor for more fluid in his ears and getting another viral infection, which ended up being a stomach virus....yuck!  I also had the kick-off party for the Lobo Club Auction.  I'm excited to be able to work again with another awesome group of ladies.

I hope your month was healthier than ours.  We are definitely looking forward to February!

December 2012

Happy New Year!! I truly hope that 2013 is a great year, like 2012 was....I guess we'll wait and see what God has in store for us this coming year.

I think December, in general, is a very busy month for everyone and ours was no different.  Here's how the first week started off: Lobo basketball games, lunch with a girlfriend, board meetings, two weekend Christmas parties, and Lee traveling to Las Angeles for work.  While in LA, Lee met with several UNM donors and/or prospective donors, including Hank Baskett and Penny Marshall.  He also attended a Lakers basketball game at the Staple Center in a suite, none-the-less.  I stayed home with sweet Landon while Lee traveled to LA.

The second week was a little more low key.  We had Lee's staff over for dinner for their annual Christmas party...yes I cooked dinner for 17 people!  Landon had his 15-month well check up and shots.  He finally weighs in at 19 lbs 6 oz (and that was right after he drank a 6 oz bottle!) and he is 29.5" in height.  Still tracking below the chart for his weight and 10% for height but we already knew we have a petite, extremely active little boy.  Also, that weekend brought in some of our Tucson friends, Gabe and Richard.  They came in town for the New Mexico bowl, which U of A played in and won!  It sure was nice having a house full of company and familiar faces.  While the guys went to the bowl game, Landon and I went to his babysitter's college graduation party.  Jaymie is such a sweet young lady and we are blessed that she's staying in town and will still be available to keep Landon for us.  We ended the weekend with Lee's board of director's annual Christmas party.  It was fun to see everyone that Lee works with on a daily basis.

The third week was a little busier for us but still so much fun.  Landon had to get more shots, we had dinner with friends, our family Christmas "morning", brunch with some of our Notre Dame/Phoenix friends that were in town, and a Lobo basketball game before flying out to Texas on Saturday night.

Since we were going to be in Texas for Christmas this year, we decided to have "Christmas morning" a few days early with our little family of 3.  Here are a few pics....

Once we flew to Texas, we spent the night of the 22nd - morning of the 26th with my family in Dallas.  We did lots of playing at Lolli Land, cooking, baking, visiting my grandparents, going to Christmas Eve service at church, spending Christmas Eve with mom's side of the family, Christmas morning and brunch with mom, Jason, and Harley before heading to see Dad and his side of the family in Ft. Worth that late afternoon.  Here are a pics from our Dallas trip....

We left Dallas around lunch time on the 26th to head to Houston to see Lee's family, where we stayed until the morning of the 30th.  While in Houston, we had Christmas and Christmas dinner with Lee's family and cousins Blakely and Daniel, out to eat at Pappasito's, watched our niece roller blade, spent the afternoon and dinner with our friends The Dukes at their house, had massages, watched the Duke basketball game and had lunch with the Urrego's, and had Lee's favorite home-cooked dinner.

We headed back to Dallas on the morning of the 30th and had lunch at Snuffer's with my mom before relaxing the rest of the day.  We had a great dinner that night and then all headed to bed, so we thought!  Landon woke up at 10:00 pm just screaming his head off and nothing we did would comfort him.  He seemed so uncomfortable, so I decided to give him Tylenol at 10:30.  It didn't help at all.  Finally, around 11:30 pm we decide to go to the ER because he wouldn't stop screaming.  I was afraid he had his first ear infection and we were flying back to ABQ at 9:00 am the next morning....so I didn't want that flight to be miserable for him, us, or everyone else.  He screamed all the way to the ER and stopped once we got him out of the car.  I filled out the paper work and we sat down.  He, then, proceeded to look at us and smirk.  We thought that we had just gotten "punked" by our baby so we decided to leave.  He started screaming as soon as we drove off.  We turned around, parked, and walked back in.  We were seen right away and we were told he was "just teething" and they gave him Motrin before we left $75 later.  He slept like a baby the rest of the night (thanks to Benadryl) and we flew home that next morning!  Crazy end to our Texas trip but it was a great trip, none-the-less.

Well, as you can see our life is so full with a happy, healthy baby but our hands will definitely be full in the coming year!
